Fixture Calibration Ontario
The annual calibration of fixtures has become a standard procedure in all automotive and aerospace companies, not only because it is mandated, but because it makes sense; the rigours of the manufacturing process ensure that no fixture set to nominal ever remains nominal (at least for long). It has become common practice for manufacturers to outsource their fixture calibration work; however, it is important to ensure that the service provider and fixture calibrator have the resources and equipment to do the job properly.
Canadian Measurement Metrology, Inc. (CMM) provides a unique service in the province of Ontario. We are the only service provider who calibrates its measuring machines weekly. We guarantee accurate and reliable data, unlike other measurement services providers, who typically have their equipment calibrated annually. Like your fixtures, coordinate measuring machines do drift out of tolerance! Our Delta gantry coordinate measuring machine enhances our ability to measure very large fixtures. With strokes of 2.5 m x 6 m x 1.8 m, it enables us to measure extremely large fixtures accurately. When we must measure extremely precise fixtures under 1 m, we employ a Zeiss Prismo high accuracy coordinate measuring machine, complete with scanning probe. For micro (smaller than 150 mm) fixtures, we employ our OGP multisensor optical CMM; this system features a laser scanner, a CCD camera, and a touch probes system. This wide range of equipment gives us precision capabilities of below 5 µ.
A common dilemma many companies face is that they cannot ship out their fixtures, because of either time constraints or the fixtures’ large size. For this problem, we have two extremely powerful solutions. First, we have the ability to use highly accurate Romer Absolute arms with a volumetric performance of .029 mm. These lightweight carbon fibre arms can easily measure fixtures under 3 m. Equipped with a powerful laser scanner, they also can provide in-depth surface topographic analysis, if required.
The most powerful measurement device in our arsenal is our Leica PCMM (Portable Coordinate Measuring Machine). It can be a simple laser tracker, and it is equipped with a remote probing system just like a stationary CMM. Finally, as an extra, it has full scanning capabilities with a powerful Steinbichler laser. With measurement capabilities of less than 20 µ, combined with the ability to measure parts up to 80 m long, this is an extremely powerful and capable measuring solution for your fixtures. In fact, the bonus of utilizing this powerful machine to measure fixtures is that it measures most complex fixtures three to five times faster than conventional laser trackers!
CMM uses the world’s finest inspection software, namely, PC-DMIS CAD ++, for all its dimensional measurements. Our powerful CAD and reporting tools enable us to quickly read any format of CAD and rapidly perform in-depth inspections. The software supports full GD&T evaluation capabilities according to ANSI Y14.5 2009 and processes all results in 2D or 3D. Powerful reporting tools can provide you with your choice of format, and we can include CAD models in reports for easy interpretation. Graphic representation is available, if CAD is not available, as well as full SPC analysis and report distribution.
For fixture calibration Ontario calibrating both new and existing fixtures in Ontario and throughout Canada, CMM should be your first choice. Either in our facility in Mississauga or at your site anywhere in Canada, we aim to make the process as simple as possible, ensuring that your fixtures are inspected correctly, accurately, and speedily.
